The magic of black boards: Japanese burnt wood
The Japanese Technique of Burnt Wood
In our workshop, some of our wooden boards undergo a unique transformation that gives them their intense black color and natural charm: the Japanese burnt wood technique, called Shou Sugi Ban.
This traditional method involves lightly charring the surface of the wood, which reveals its texture, accentuates the grain, and creates a deep contrast between the natural material and the intense visual effect.
Fire is not only for aesthetics. It protects the wood, making it more resistant to moisture and minor impacts, while limiting the appearance of pests. Each board thus becomes not only beautiful but also durable and robust, ready to be used in the kitchen or as a decorative item.
Benefits of burnt wood
Black boards appeal to those who appreciate authentic aesthetics, the warmth of wood, and natural elegance.
Each piece is unique, with its own personality, where artisanal craftsmanship meets the raw beauty of wood. They bring a graphic and warm touch to your interior, whether for preparing meals or as a decorative item.
Care and finishing of black boards
To ensure your black boards remain beautiful and durable, it's important to take good care of them.
Regular cleaning
After each use, wash the board with lukewarm water and a little mild soap. Wipe it with a clean cloth and let it air dry, preferably vertically. Avoid the dishwasher, which can damage the wood and cause cracks.
Oil and protection
From time to time, apply a thin layer of food-grade oil. This protects the wood, revives its natural color, and extends the life of your board.
Tip for deep cleaning
For a deeper clean and to eliminate odors, sprinkle a little coarse salt on the surface, then gently rub with half a lemon. Rinse lightly and let it air dry. This natural method helps keep your boards clean and fresh.
